Craftsmanship at Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu: Handmade Canvas Bags From Kyoto

>Craftsmanship at Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu: Handmade Canvas Bags From Kyoto

Kyoto, the city of traditional Japanese arts and crafts, is home to Ichizawa Shizaburo Hanpu,
a company which has been making expertly crafted canvas bags coveted by artisans and laborers for over a century. Each bag is carefully made by hand by experienced craftspeople using only the most superior quality canvas. Ichizawa Hanpu works together with canvas manufacturers to create our own standard for the production of cotton canvas. We make a variety of canvas products by using colorful plain canvas or dyed canvas with our original patterns. Furthermore, we have set our own standards for specialized dyeing and waterproofing techniques. These qualities truly make owning and carrying a Ichizawa Hanpu canvas bag a special and unique experience.

Ichizawa hanpu has found international acclaim as well, having been voted “Best Travel Bag” by the English magazine Monocle.

Up until this point, Ichizawa Hanpu bags have only been available for purchase directly from their store tucked away on a backstreet in Kyoto's Higashiyama district. We at Kajitsu are proud to host Izchizawa Hanpu's 110th anniversary with their first ever sales event outside Japan and will be featuring limited edition Kokage tote bag and Kajitsu Messenger bag to mark this special occasion.
